AMIT CHAUDHURI, MOBILE FORMS: WORD, SONG & DISCOURSE

November 15th, 2016

‘Amit Chaudhuri has, like Proust, perfected the art of the moment… [he] is a miniaturist, for whom tiny moments become radiant, and for whom the complexities of the fleeting mood uncurl onto the page like a leaf, a petal.’ Hilary Mantel, New York Review of Books.

‘Captivating and deeply idiosyncratic fusion/not fusion of Hindustani classical music, jazz, rock and blues… dreamy raga-based discursions which incorporate the acid rock songbook, trumpeter Miles Davis’ modal legacy, Delta blues and retro Tin Pan Alley… A quirky, one-of-a-kind, little piece of magic.’ Chris May, All About Jazz

Author of six novels, winner of the Commonwealth Literature Prize, the Betty Trask award, the Encore Prize, the Los Angeles Times Book Prize, the Indian government’s Sahitya Akademi Award, and the first Infosys Prize in the Humanities for outstanding contribution to literary studies, Amit Chaudhuri is Professor of Contemporary Literature at the University of East Anglia and one of the most influential literary critics of his generation. He is also an acclaimed North Indian singer for whom jazz, rock and blues infuse classical Hindustani raga. Amit joins The Baldwin’s inaugural dinner salon for word, song and discourse and will be accompanied by his guitarist, Adam Moore.

In the intimate environment of a Blackheath living room, guests are invited for wine and reading/music/conversation, followed by a vegetarian buffet dinner. Doors open at 7:00pm, performance at 7:45. Space is extremely limited and bookings available only in advance.
